Vitamin C, Collagen Strength, and Heel Pain
Vitamin C is required during many of the steps of collagen manufacture. Scar tissue in guinea pigs who are low on Vitamin C intake increases in strength by a factor of 4 when the vitamin C intake is increased by a factor of 10 (Bourne 1946). Human connective-tissue immersed in vitamin C shows an 8-fold increase in the rate of formation (Murad, et al 1981).
Unlike 99.99% of all other animals, humans lost the gene that manufacturers large quantities of vitamin C in the body. All other animals produce an average of 200 times the RDA in their liver or kidneys. You cannot get this amount from food which is why animals produce it on their own. They produce 170 mg vitamin C per kg body weight from glucose. For a human, that would be 12,000 mg a day. This shows how important the substance is and why Linus Pauling's 1986 book "How to Live Longer and Feel Better" is one of the most important books published in this century.
Scared of Vitamin C?
It is not harmful to the kidneys and has never been shown to cause kidney stones in anyone. A recent and extensive Harvard study shows Vitamin C taken above 1,500 mg a day decreases the incidence of kidney stones by 22%. See the Vitamin C Foundation's list of experts' responses to the most recent ridiculous anti-vitamin report (that vitamin C can cause cancer) at
http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/lunec.htm. Vitamin C does not cause insomnia, B12 deficiency, eye problems, or any of a number of other absurd theories that have been proposed over the years. People have been taking 30,000 mg and more for 20+ years and the only symptom has been chronic good health. However, stoping vitamin C during a period of sickness will more-than-likely make you sicker. Enormous intravenous doses of vitamin C has killed some cancer patients because vitamin C can kill cancer cells so fast that it causes toxic shock.
Dosages
I am taking about 8,000 mg (heaping teaspoon) of ascorbic acid powder (Vitamin C) 4 times a day (32,000 mg a day) because the kidneys remove excess in only a few hours. As the digestive track absorbs it, it maintains high concentrations in the blood before the kidneys can remove it. Daily doses are largely ineffective above about 1,000 mg, so that's all you need (one big pill) if you're going to take it only once a day. I mix the powder with water (it's sour) or orange juice (makes it taste a lot better for some reason). At 5,000 mg (1 level teaspoon) or more you may have an increased sense of well-being as if you've swallowed sugar or a pain killer because of C's effect on stress and pain. Your eyes may feel funny or better. It lowers the intraocular pressure (good for glaucoma). I recommend 1/2 level teapoon 4 times a day to start off and if that doesn't cause diarrhea or upset stomach, go up to a full level teaspoon. It will cause gas for the first two days if you jump in too quickly. A 1,000 mg pill 4 times a day is a more conservative approach, but less likely to work. My feet are miraculously better after only 1 month and my energy level is much higher. I am asking everybody to try it for 1 month and email me the results: good, ineffective, or bad. The sodium ascorbate is just as good, does not raise sodium levels in the body (I read somewhere), tastes salty instead of sour, is good for those who are still scared of kidney stones, and probably costs more. The regular ascorbic acid should cost less than 50 cents a day at 4 1/2 teaspoons a day (10,000 mg), $13 a month. Pills can also be used but they may cause more gas because of the filler. Get the cheapest brand, they're all the same.
The Vitamin C Miracle: Collagen Strength, Antioxidant, Virus Killer, and Anti-Histamine
The collagen manufacturing property of vitamin C helps prevent and cure burns, heart disease, cancer, surgery complications, stillborns (especially twins), vertebrae disk problems, arthritis, weight lifting soreness, etc. It is what holds our bodies together. The antioxidant property helps prevent and cure pain, cancer, aging, and snake and spider poisioning. It provides viral protection because its acidic property is used by our bodies to attack virus and alleviates their symptoms. The symptoms have been lessened and/or the duration decreased in the following: herpes, mono, colds, flu, chickpox, measles, AIDS, and many more. It helps alleviate shock and allergies because it is an anti-histamine.
