Hormones possibly responsible

Posted by Rhonda on 9/08/98 at 19:56 (001716)

I have read several articles which suggest that hormones are the culprits. Women have more vigorous immune systems. These immunological differences are key to the # of women vs men who say have RA etc. Most arthritis occurs when the immune goes astray, attacking ones own tissues. But when a female is pregnant the immune system fails to recognize and destroy a foreign being. Rheumatoid Arthritis tends to improve during pregnancy but recurs within 3 months of the baby's birth. It appears that hormones do have a significant effect on arthritis and other tissue diseases such as PF etc. Rhonda
