I find Mephisto shoes to be the best - they are available in all kinds, including dress shoes. Extremely expensive (circa $250/pair), but they last forever. Good arch support, and very well cushioned heel. I also have a pair of Dansko clogs which are also comfortable with excellent arch support. Birkenstock sandals around the house are virtually everybody's favorite, including mine.

Try on some Ecco Shoes. You can check out the web at ecco.com to find a store near you. Then go try them out to see if it is something you could wear. They have a shock absorbing heal and give good support. I find that no one shoe is the perfect one for everyone. In fact, I find that I must change shoes throughout the day to move the pressure points around on my feet. I don't think I could handle a job like yours (ouch) - I wish you luck!
