Maybe select your shoes a different wayPosted by Robin on 1/27/99 at 00:00 (003973)
Sue -- as a fellow PF sufferer, let me suggest that you do not even think about buying shoes based on a vote from a message board.
There is a lot of information on this board about all the shoes you named. If I were you, I would use this board as a research base. Lots of people have posted favorably about New Balance, Birks, Mephistos, Ecco, etc. -- and have explained WHY they like them, based on individual foot problems, conditions, high arches or flat feet.
But the best way to decide what shoes to buy is to go out and try them on -- and to take a long time when you do, analyzing how they feel and if they give you what you the support, flexibility, cushioning or whatever you are looking for.

And go to a good shoe store and get professionally fitted, not Foot Locker or Kenney or a mall chain. I've got a closet full of shoes that I can't wear because the person who sold them to me didn't know what they were doing. Make sure you take your inserts with you, and get your feet measured, what size you are is not necessarily what size you really are, and normal vs wide makes a big difference in comfort and feel.
