vitamin c

I am curious. why the mega doses of vit. c. It is a water soluble vitamin and won;t be stored by your body.Seems to me any large doses would just be a waste or at best a placebo.

In large doses it has been shown to reverse shock, allergies, some toxin exposures, and to produce dramatic improvement in burn victims and those with many types of viral infections. Most of the studies on C and colds show a shortening of the duration of the cold by 1 or 2 days on the small doses (less than 5 grams a day). More improvement is seen more consistently on the higher doses Pauling and many others have recommended. The 3 studies on 10 grams C per day and cancer (before chemo) show a consistent increase in life span by a factor of 4. Enzymes convert it to other anti-oxidants and store it in various parts of the body.

Yes, most of it is either not absorbed or it is excreted through the kidneys in less than 6 hours. Because of this, bladder cancer has the most dramatic improvement on mega-doses of C. C doses should be spread out over each day so that it stays in the body.

The most important function of C is to make strong collagen to hold the body together. That is why animals have an average of 100 times more C in their system than humans. Humans are extremely unusual in that they don't make their own C in massive doses. The strength of collagen increases with increasing C, provided there is enough lysine and other amino acids. The fascia needs strong collagen.
