I found that when I began wearing the night splints (March) the pain when I first stepped out of bed was considerably lessened. Since that time I have discontinued exercise (running, biking, step, all of it!) I also stopped stretching and icing. The only thing I do is wear the splint each night and inserts in my shoes and never go barefoot. My foot is pain free EXCEPT for when I forget to wear the splint at night and when I've had a particularly busy day (walking wise). In sum, I feel the splint has become invaluable to me, however it took about 2 months to become so. Good luck!
