X-rays

Posted by Issy on 6/09/99 at 00:00 (007690)

X-rays were taken...I have not scheduled surgery as of yet... I still want to find out more information and talk to others...However this Doctor comes highly recommended...

Issy, that was fast! You must have posted your answer to me right after I posted to you!

Anyway, was it just a regular x-ray, or a bone scan?

I have a long time friend who was treated for PF for years, and then come to find out she had a flat, skinny tumor wrapped completely around her heel! She is fine now.
I just don't want to go get the surgery and then later find out it is a tumor or bone deformation OR SOMETHING.....

Thanks! Kelus (looolooo@flash.net)

Just regular X-rays...you can see the lump in my arch and you can feel it also...and it is very sore to touch...it has grown from the size of a small pea to about the size of a nickle now in a few months...From what the Doctor told me they can get quite large...he told me I would have from 8 to 10 stitches is all...off my foot for 3 days...and special shoe for 3 weeks...with very little walking for healing process...

This is going to be very hard for me...I have 8 large parrots and MANY smaller birds I have to water and feed each day...I need to find someone to come in and care for them for the 3 days I need to be off my feet...

Kelus...
I have a friend out of state...her sister is a Podiatrist...she (doctor) recommends an MRI also...below is her email concerning my condition...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what my sister says....

>>If your friend has anything on the foot that's Growing and Painful, If
it was my foot, I'd have it out! Having said that, if she has plantar
fibromatosis, it is a highly recurrent disease, unless the entire
plantar is stripped. I've done about a dozen of these surgeries, often
times if it feels like a
nickle on the outside, it will be about a quarter on the inside. X-rays
will just show an increase in the soft tissue density, nothing else.
The best diagnostic procedure is having an MRI of the foot, that way,
the exact location and the extend of the tumor can be delineated prior
to surgery.
Since the tumor is growing and it IS painful, I wouldn't delay the
surgery. BUT, always get a second opinion. Her doctor is right about
the injections, they don't work on this. And they're painful, too.

Oh, the POSSIBLE complications of the surgery, doesn't mean they will
happen:

painful scar
infection
wound dehiscence (popped suture)

-the above are possible with any and all surgeries

recurrence (70% recurrence? don't quote me)
condition no better (doubt it)
loss of arch- orthotics after surgery can help

Take care, and best of wishes to your friend>>
