Annette and running

Annette,
I read your post about running and can very much relate. I have
had PF for about 14 months now and it has wreaked emotional havoc.
Like you, I also tried to do a little running when the foot felt
better only to have it regress again. I was an avid triathlete at
the time I incurred the injury. I still haven't given up hope of
doing triathlons again, however; I am willing to wait. Although
my feet have a way to go they are slowly getting better.
My girlfriend is currently in medical school at East Carolina
University. This weekend I went with her to an annual conference
associated with family practice physicians in NC. I had a long
discussion with one of the product reps who also attended the
conference (there was a large room where different pharmaceutical firms, etc., displayed their leading edge products).
The product rep I talked with about PF gave me a pneumatic Aircast
to try. She explained how it would allow me to walk and carry on
my normal life and yet still allow the pf to rest and thus heal.
Although I stopped running, just simply walking has kept my pf
inflamed to some degree even with $400 custom orthotics. I plan to
try the Aircast for about 6 weeks. I have my hopes up.
On a side note, my girlfriend has been quite the inspiration for me
in overcoming adversity. She has cheered me on in several triathlons.
At one point in her life she was homeless and living in the streets
of Raleigh. She slept on park benches and was extremely hungry. She
also had been burned from her neck down with second and third degree
burns. She has overcome all this and more to graduate from Duke with
a degree in biochemistry and is now in medical school with plans to
be a family practitioner. Lifetime television recently chronicled her
story. My pf has been difficult to overcome but I am fortunate to
have someone from whom I can draw strength.
best, Hank
