plantar fasciitis

Hello, I am (or used to be) a runner. For the past five years I would jog anywhere from 6 to 10 miles daily. Around my 20th birthday, three months ago, I became stricken with plantar fasciitis. Not realizing the severity of this ailment I kept on running and actually increased my milage. Of course, it became too painful to run and soon I was even unable to walk without limping. I have been to a podiatrist and an orthopedist. I've tried the cortisone shots which did not help and am now in a walking cast (four weeks now). I feel some improvement but cannot forsee being able to run in the near future. I miss running so much. I was wondering if there was anything else that I can do. Does anyone know if there is hope for me to return to running? Please HELP. Thank you.
