Running and jumping??

Posted by Nancy S. on 1/08/00 at 00:00 (014468)

Dear Bill, Are you really running and jumping? I don't know your case, but do you think that is a good idea? What is your condition, and what pain level are you at, and how long have you had this? My reaction when I saw those words 'running and jumping' was a big YIKES.

Well not huge amounts. I help coach my son's soccer team and there are times I get in there and run with them. Not a really high impact run or anything. I have had PT for 3 years now. I have had the shots which didn't help me at all. I have done stretches, ice, etc. My pain level is down from a year ago. I can get up out of bed and walk fine with no pain. My pain starts after standing for a period of time. Standing in one place for more than 10 min starts hurting my heels. I wear Birkenstocks which help, but nothing seems to help when I'm standing in place. My orthodics are just too hard for me. If I walk normal with them, I am fine, but If I stand for any period or try to do any activiy like exercising my heels start hurting and they just seem too hard. I want an insert that has support, but gives me some heel cushion yet it's still firm. I saw your post about the sorbothane graphite insole and wondered where you purchased. I can't seem to find anywhere on line.

Thanks for your reply.

Bill

Bill-
Go to Scott's main page and look under products and find arch supports. Sorbothane will be listed there. Go to Spectrum Sports main page. Check on thier air insoles link. At the bottom of that page you will see a link for the graphite arch suport. Check on that and it will show you a good picture and description. On that page there will also be a link that shows you what stores in your state carry them. I ordered mine out of a health catalog but I just got a new catalog and they aren't offering them in this one. There is a store near me that is supposed to have them so when I need a new pair I may call them.
Scott-I am sorry I didn't order the precustom insert over the web site so you could get the commission. I will next time. I hesitate to put my charge card number over the web. The 2 times I ordered over the web someone got my number and charged a bunch of pornography with it. That was FUN getting that off my accout. I don't want to do that again. How long did the cushion last on your precustom orthotic. I have only had mine a few days and it seems to be bottoming out already. That does not happen with the Sorbothane graphic insert. I have had them for weeks and the cushion on them is as good as new. One of themain reasins I ordered the precustom insert was for the cushion.

Bill, I know what you mean. My orthotics also are hard, and while they do help for doing errands etc., I can't wear them long if it involves any standing around. I'm interested in the insoles you mentioned and as soon as I end this message I'm going to look at them, following Annette's directions.

I think I've had it for 6 months and it seems fine. I weigh 145 pounds. It looks like the spot under the base of the big toe will be the first to go. I guess the plastic part could be seperate then and placed under a regular insert.
