Also, if you can't sit back on your heels when the tops of the feet are on the floor, then replace that position with the stretch I described. You won't ever cramp in that position.

Some stretches, like leaning back to stretch the quads, won't work with you up on the balls of your feet, though. In that case either skip, do it right and then ease off when the cramping starts (then coutner-stretch), or place a rolled towel or blanket under the ankles to ease off the squeeze on the soles.
