Lithotripsy

Posted by Chris Ruggeri on 2/21/00 at 00:00 (016149)

I am currently considering using ESWL for treatment of my kidney stone. I was wondering if someone could shed some light for me on possible short and long term side effects of this treatment. I read an article written in 1991 that ESWL could cause an increase arterial blood pressure, renal failure, and increase in occurence of kidney stones. Have these findings been proven or contridicted since it was 9 years ago. Please email me at Boggeri4x4@aol.com if you have any information.
Thank You

Hi Chris,
Good question. Studies more current than the one you are referring to show no long term increase in arterial blood pressure, renal failure, and increase in occurence of kidney stones.
I know of a study done in Indianapolis that looked at the above.
