Went to the Dr. today

Posted by Stephanie S. on 2/29/00 at 00:00 (016607)

Hi everyone. Just got back from the doctor. Had a change in insurance
at the beginning of the year...so had to see pcp first to get to a
specialist. I think he may help better anyhow. He gave celebrex, pre-
scribed orthotics and took x-rays. I also took a steriod shot in the
hip verses the shots in the heels. It wasn't as painful in case your
wondering. Okay..I talked the technican into letting me have a peek
at the x-rays before they were sent off to the radiologist. ( I know
...I know). But let me just say...it was a plain as day..their they
were...wonderful heel spurs on both heels. Now what to do? If I'm
thinking right..the heel spurs were brought on by the PF. Right? Once
you have the heel spurs...is this where they do surgery? I'm sorry..
I'm just really worried about what I saw. Guess I'll get the phone
call from the physician once the radiologist gives the results.
Just worried...thinking...how on earth can I have surgery and recover
and still take care of 4 kids?? It bothers me to think of it. Anyone
have any advice about these orthotics...what should I be looking for
when I go or what kind should I request? In just reading the posts..
it seems like it's almost a waste of money...because they don't fit
properly or are not comfortable to wear. Thanks for any advice...
signing off today as WORRIED!! Stephanie

rarely do they do surgery to remove heel spurs. the heel spurs are symptoms of PF and not the cause. statistics show that most people with heel spurs have no pain at all and many without spurs have lots of pain (me). just start trying many of the helpful hints on this board and listen to your doctor. do not be stampeded into surgery, shots or orthotics unless you clearly understand how they may help you.

Hi Stephanie,
I was wondering why did the doctor give you the steriod shot in the hip instead of your foot? How is this suppose to help you? The reason I am asking you is I never heard of this before, but hey I would rather have a shot in my hip instead of my foot also.
I am going to my podiatrist this week and I am suppose to have my second cortisone shot so maybe you can help me out and let me know.

Best to you .Laurie R
