Interdigital Neuroma

Posted by MaryAnn O. on 3/03/00 at 00:00 (016816)

I was not sure what I had-my doctor gave me excercises to do as if I had Plantar Fasciitis which helped some but...
I went to my chiro and he thinks I have Interdigital Neuroma as my pain is in the front of the foot not by the heel. When I squeeze my foot from side to side it hurts the most, not from top to bottom so...
Has anyone experienced this?? Comments, treatment??
Thanks.
MaryAnn

When I squeezed my heel from side to side it was a killer. Did he do any additional testing? Hope he did!

I have this same kind of pain at times, would love to know more about it.

In addition to PF, I have pain & tingling between the 2nd & 3rd metatarsals. My podiatrist used an ultrasound test to check for interdigital neuroma. The test ruled it out. However, he said I probably have an irritated or inflamed nerve.

I have something strange going on in the same spot. My Dr. never seemed to get too interested, given the priority on the PF. I believe that this is related to the burning sensation I get where the whole front of my right foot feels like it is shooting flames. I also have permanent numbness on the inside of the third toe. I broke these metatarsals as a child twice, (I'm a slow learner) so I sort of passed it off as one of those things I asked for. I also absolutely cannot take any sideways pressure on either foot. Something sort of pops out of place, which is painful, and I have to snap it back.

Could this sort of problem be related to favoring our heels by keeping an inordinant amount of our weight on the balls of our feet?

MaryAnn, I've never heard of an interdigital neuroma. Is it the same as Morton's neuroma? I've had three neuromas removed. 2 from my left foot, 1 from my right foot.

This sounds like neuroma syndrome. Go to the web site http://www.thefootspecialist.com and look up neuroma this will help you undertand the condition and treatment
