The best total body exercise apparatus is in my opinion the pilates perfomer. It has therapeutic exercises for the feet as well as a host of non-weightbearing exercises that get your whole body active and in the healing mood.

I also use a recumbent bike. I had some problems with it at first but after doing some special exercises for my foot I am now strong enough to be able to pedal the bike and walk easier.

Exercise, for the whole body, is definitely a great way to make progress in pf healing.
