don't stretch until the pain is minimal or you will continue the vicious cycle. The night splint helped me heal sooner so that I could begin gentle stretching. I gently stretch often on the foot flex. I am jogging a little further each day, today did 30 minutes - no pain and getting stronger.
Patience and rest (you CAN wear the night splint and/or s/sock every night and start winning battles). Over stretching will reinjure. Wait until you are ready to begin gentle stretching. This I learned and relearned from experience.
