identity crisis......

Posted by ChrisOJudyS on 6/08/00 at 21:52 (021550)

Geez - I'm having a hard time withdrawing from using 'ChrisO'!

Mama skunk (still needs a name) poked her nose out a while ago. She's diggin' the cat food!

You will never get them out. They have found a good home. I had one in my yard in the daylight following my dogs up to my deck. Didn't smell good, the dogs!!! Where do you live?

PROBLEM! My husband was just a bit off on the count of the newest family in town...........Mama actually has FIVE babies...and, to top it off, we were sitting in our jacuzzi a bit ago which is situated on a deck just a bit further out from the house, and three more skunks showed up from under THAT deck! Those five babies are no bigger than my hand so my guess is that Mom gave birth under there.
Here's the thing - new construction started near us a few weeks ago and we all knew we were going to see lots of the animals (coyote, fox, etc.) that are displaced. I guess we're the first in the neighborhood! That's what I get for having led the charge on opposing that construction in front of the City Council for nearly three years! Tomorrow we call Animal Control.

How about 'Rose'???? My children found a turtle yesterday...
out in our front lawn. I think it has found it's home. My
4 children have fallen in-love with the idea of a pet turtle.
Ever heard of such a thing? I have to admit...it is cute...pretty
big to...about 8 inches wide. Still trying to figure out 'what
kind' of turtle this is and what to feed it. I'm clueless. They have
given it a name and have built a turtle fort ( out of sticks ) on the
front lawn...a box consisting of pinestraw and leaves is it's
sleeping place in my oldest daughter's room. We have had more
visitors (neighborhood kids) to see this wonderful creature. It
has had a bath ( quit gagging ) and before long...I'm sure it's
shell will be waxed. Ha ha....anyone got a turtle??? Steph

I was just wondering if turtles ever get PF.......

yes, I grew up in Michigan where there were turtles all over the place. We always had them around because we were always at lakes.

They're wonderfully unique and wonderfully undemanding! I did get bit by one once when I was trying to remove a fish hook from it's mouth......

Judy,

Call me a worry wart, but I am so happy to hear animal control is coming. I know they are cute little critters, but a tomato juice bath is no fun, and I'd hate to see one of your kids or pets get bitten.
Since I don't want to promote 'separation anxiety,' I don't have any names to give.

My Dad was a weekend rancher. Mom got attached to one of the cows and named her Elsie. Elsie had a name, and so she was spared from ever going to 'hamburger land.'

Ok...I've given up...I'm going to bed. I've looked all over
the internet trying to figure out what kind of turtle this is
and what to feed it. I've decided it's best to take it to the
zoo tomorrow and ask. It looks like a Gopher Turtle...which
is on the endangered species list as 'Threatened'...so maybe
it wasn't such a bad thing this wonderful creature showed
up on our front lawn. My children want to take care of every
creature they find...including 3 baby birds last week that fell
from their nest. Don't ask...yes they didn't make it...what a
terrible day that was...explaining that to the kids when they
came home from school. I'm a sucker for animals, huh? I've been
sitting way too long at this computer guys...I'm gonna be saying
'Ouch, Ouch, Ouch' all the way to my bed!! My feets are gonna
hurt. Bye for now. Steph

Stephanie,
I really don't want to rain on the turtle parade, but a couple of years ago my daughter wanted a turtle for a pet. We went to the pet stores to buy her one. The stores that we went to said that they didn't sell them anymore because of salmanella (I think that is the way it is spelled.) So make sure that everyone washes hands very well after handling this fellow.
I have gotten so cautious around animals since the cat put Allison in the hospital because she wanted to handle the kittens.
I'm not sure exactly what salmanella is, but I understand that it can be bad.
Gosh I do sound like a party pooper, but I really thought that you ought to know. Now, I am in Texas, so it may be different here. You know, different breeds and so on.
Anyway you guys enjoy the animals, but be careful.

Thanks a bunch. Yes...I did read about that Salmanella (sp).
I'm going to the zoo in a hour for the reptile zookeeper to
have a look at it. See what he has to say. If it's the type
of turtle I think it is...it's on the endangered species list.
So...I'm thinking it might just stay there...at the zoo. He's
been fun for a few days though. I'm with you on the hands washing.
Antibacterial everything.!! Thanks...steph

There sure are alot of us from Texas? What is it with Texas and PF... maybe it's just a big state. We could almost have a 'PF of Texas Support Group!' I'm in the sweltering, humid, South part of Texas. The irony is that I moved here from the North Texas/push-push rat race a year in and ahalf ago, imagining a laid back, play a little tennis at the Ladies Tennis Association, go shopping and to lunch with the girls, and in general enjoy fun in the sun life. Hope I get to do that soon.
Ride now, I'd be thrilled to be able to ride the treadmill for five minutes without pain.

turned out to be a common yellow bellied alabama turtle. Ha ha
Should have seen the look on the zoo keepers face. I loaded up
9 children and off we went to take this turtle to a huge pond.
What fun it was to see the turtle take off in the water. Wow!!
Sure was fun for a few days!! Steph
