Returning for one last look!

Posted by Connie T on 8/03/00 at 18:43 (024597)

I haven't visited this site in almost a year and am saddened by the fact that nothing has changed. We're still icing, wearing Birks and night splints, taking Vioxx, gaining weight, and dealing with monumental frustration. I had three surgeries on one foot and one on the other. The first was done on each foot using the endoscope method and the two on the 'really bad' foot were invasive surgery techniques. That meant a total of eight months off of work over a three year period. It's a very good thing I'm an administrator in a major university and get paid leave or I'd be living on the streets.

Bottom line? Several bewildered doctors and physical therapists and I'm still living with daily swelling, pain, muscle spasms, and a great deal of unhappiness.

Anyone with a suggestion that doesn't involve a rope or a gun?

ESWT by anyone is something to look into. I would even go to a pain specialist. for evaluation for epidural. I would rule out RSD.!!!
On second though before ESWT consideration, go to a type of Medical Doctor called a Physiatrist. This is a medical doctor who is a specialist in the treatment physical medicine and rehab of the human body and trauma. It would be great to find someone who is both a pain specialist and a physiatrist. If he feels that the problem is only in the foot, then ESWT would be my choice to consider. Good luck.

Thank you for your comments, Dr. Zuckerman.

I tried to get into an ESWT study but was not accepted because of the surgeries. I'll check into the RSD with my doctor. I'm very glad I returned for one last look.

connie connie connie - from what I've heard ropes and guns don't do much for muscle problems - your chronic swelling and spasms makes me wonder about your chemical makeup in terms of vitamin/mineral deficiencies or maybe those tootsies of yours need a strengthening program just for them. What do you think?
