Heel Pain

Posted by Suzanne S. on 9/08/00 at 23:08 (027645)

My husband has been suffering from heel pain for several months, andit seems to be getting progressively worse. It's very painful to walk. He is flat-footed and in the past few years has also become overweight. The pain seems to be higher than I'm reading here.....it's on the heel where the Achille's tendon is, not on the bottom of his heel. Could this still be plantar fasciitis? Whatever, he's in lots of pain and is having trouble walking.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Suzanne,
Does your husband have no pain on the bottom of his foot at all? If not, it seems doubtful that he has plantar fasciitis. But it does sound a lot like achilles tendonitis. Of course, neither of these conditions should go untreated. Has he not seen a foot specialist? If not, he should get to one pronto. Left untreated, these things can become chronic and much more difficult to cure -- and if he's having that much pain in his achilles, there's always the chance of a rupture, which he doesn't want! I would urge him to get to a doctor ASAP. I'm not a doctor -- but a PF and triple tendonitis person (including achilles) who went not properly treated for too long. Please make sure he goes in right away, and let us know what happens. Good luck --
Nancy

Suzanne --- Amen to Nancy's advice above. He should see a Sports Medicine or Orthopedic specialist immediately. Every day that he aggravates the condition ADDS to the treatment/recovery time. So get started right away!
