Gone extinct

Posted by Pauline on 9/18/00 at 16:06 (028544)

While I'm lying low with PF I got to thinking about things that have gone extinct during my life. This is what I came up with so far. Anything to add? PF sure makes one think in strange ways.

Carbon paper
Slide Rules
Memorization of the Period Table
Manual typewriters
32 cent postage stamps

My trips to the Mall have 'gone extinct.' Have not set foot in a mall in months. It used to be one of my favorite ways to destress... even if I didn't buy anything.

Going to 'stand up and chat cocktail parties' is also on my extinct list.

Dancing... Well, I think I may need to forget about that one for the rest of my days. When and if my feet heal, I won't want to push it with possibly foolish choices.

I could list more, but I don't want to get depressed.

I am only 31...and so many things have gone extinct in my life time...

Records/8-tracks and cassetes..try explaining to your kids what a '45 is'
Rotatary telephones
'Bunny ears' on televisions with tuner dials
Film projectors (the old kind my grandpa had)
smoking in movie theatres and stores
Elevator operators

Stop stop - it's making me feel old.

hmmmmm....this one's easy to personalize.....(and how did you ever get to thinking about it?)

1. Rotary-dial phones
2. One phone or tv per household
3. Boys and/or men taking baseball hats off during meals...
4. Seamed silk stockings and(oh boy..)sexy garter belts for everyday use!
5. Men 'doffing' their caps to a lady....
6. Ladies in gloves.....(other than baseball)
7. 'everybody in for ice cream' on the purchase of a new family car
8. Playing with your pals in the neighborhood roads after dark..
9. Telling mom 'CYA' at the dawn of a summer day and not returning home till dinnertime....
10.NO SHOPPING on Sundays!

Those long poles that teachers used to open and close the transoms over the classroom doors.

Air raid drills.

Carrying schoolbooks in arms instead of backpacks.
