Backward Walking ?

Posted by Charles T on 9/24/00 at 08:58 (029009)

Is there any data on pros and cons of walking backward vs heel/foot problems. Other than balance and obstacle avoidance, could short distance backward walking harm or benefit a person that already is suffering from PF ?

I am not aware of any studies done on back ward walking as a form of treatment for plantar fasciitis. It would reverse the natural order of eccentric muscle action in the anterior leg group and also be a form of fascia strectching. The muscle exercise should be good if not done to over use but you would have to relate to the fascia based on pain and the possiblity of qiuckly entering into an over use situation.
