Are steep hills & steps bad for you?

Posted by Alison H. on 10/05/00 at 20:23 (029895)

We moved into our new two-story house in Nov. 98, & it sits on a steep hill. You have to walk up 14 steps to get to the 2nd floor that we live on. I have had PF for about a year. I regularly go up & down the driveway & walk some in the rough, uneven yard, & go up & down those steps countless times a day. Am I doing myself in or helping the situation by exercising? Thanks!

Then exercise is good as long as you don't give yourself shin splints. Make sure your shoes are giving your feet enough support. Dr.B.

Alison, I live in a very hilly neighborhood too. I find walking up hills, biking up hills very aggravating to my heel. When I have no alternative but to go up a hill, I do it very, very slowly. As my PF is improving, I noticed it is not as bad as it used to be. I don't think I'll ever be a hill runner again. Very disappointing because it's great for toning legs and good for stamina.
