cortisone shots

info from 'Runners World': 1. cortisone can cause fat pad atrophy (2) prolonged use of cortisone causes bone death (3) short term use can weaken tendons and damage nerves (4)cortisone should never be injected directly into a tendon or nerve due to the possibility of rupture. the idea is to 'bathe' the injured area with the drug. (5)do not allow a physician to give you more than three injections a YEAR IN ANY ONE AREA OF YOUR BODY. some experts recommed stopping at two. (6) if you opt for cortisone treatment for arunning injury, rest for the following two weeks. Ice the injury fo no more than 20 minutes three to four times a day for the first 48 hours after the injection. avoid high impact activities for 10 to 14 days.

Thanks for the info - I am due to have my 2nd lot of injections on Thursday. I will certainly think very carefully before I allow any needles to be stuck into me!
