to johnh re: "cortisone shots-rupture of PF"

Hi johnh.$1br$1I think it depends on the person and the extent of their injury as to whether one cortisone shot or multiple cortisone shots will cause PF rupture. I experienced rupture after one$1discovered on MRI$1. Long story$1as usual with me!$1-I will spare you. But I was in a crunch having developed PF Four days prior to tennis camp vacation that was planned for one year. Initial Doc gave shot to ease the pain and thinking to allow me to play 5 1/2 hours per day for five days$1was only able to play two days relatively painfree, until I experienced a$1POP$1-my PF rupturing$1. Then subsequent TTS, bilaterally.

Cortisone shots are best avoided when it is known in advance that undue stress is going to be applied to the area being treated. Dr. B.

Dr. Biehler, your statement here amazes me........not because you've made it but because, through 3 sets of cortisone shots, I was not once told to take it easy for a few days! And that in spite of the fact that my Pod knew for a fact that I was a very physically active person! Wish I'd known, perhaps I'd have had better results.

I had relief for about 20 minutes. I just don't recommend them to anyone I see no benefit from these shots. Whatever the actualy problem is a shot is not fixing that problem

Hi.

A shot isn't the answer for your problem Cindy, but it might be helpful to some patients. There is the problem of abuse of steriod injections but that doesn't mean that they don't have any use.

actually cindyp i have read of a number of cases where an individual got a PF shot and never had a problem again. it gave the fascia/nerves a time to cool down and wallah- no more pain. this is not the usual scenerio but it does happen. if you get a couple of months without pain it also provides that ever elusive 'hope'

I have heard that is true I guess I just cannot fathom why I was given one with the problem that I have. I am going back to pain clinic monday. They arenot going to give me another shot. What i am going to make them do is give me a plan about how they are going to get me well without surgery. They mentioned something about a nerve block in the back. NO NEEDLES IN the back. So they are going to have to come up with something besides shots or throwing more pills at me. Then I go the reconstructive foot specialist on the 21st. Which I have to pay out of pocket for. Those guys ain't cheap. I have been trying to work with my district representative to make the dopes help me. He said it sounds like to him they have no clue what's wrong with me. So encouraging. The thing that makes me angry is if I had already had surgery I could have very probably been on the road to recovery. Instead now am waiting on dr's appts. who cannot agree on a treatment and no job. Oh well sorry for venting. Just tired. Tired of swallowing pills
