Has anyone tried a tens unit?

Posted by Beverly on 11/24/00 at 18:47 (033423)

My PT is going to see if my insurance will let me have a tens unit. The electric stimulator gives me some temporary relief (some of the time), and I am especially interested in the tens unit for my post tibial tendonitis and hamstring strain which I believe is just adding flame to the fire of my PF.
So, has anyone tried a tens unit and what was your experience?
Thanks,
Beverly

i own and have used a tens unit for my low back and it is somewhat effective. It would be difficult to use on your foot unless you are lying down. You could use it on a hamstring and do your normal activities. you can rent these by the day from certain physical thearapist which i suggest as a good one will cost in excess of $500. Empi is a major manufacturer of these devices and may have a website. Try http://www.empi.com

yes there is a very good website by the manufacturer http://www.empi.com and it will make a good read for any of the people who post on this board.

Thanks, John. Renting is a good way to see if it will work. Actually, I am hoping my insurance will buy me one. My PT seemed to think I might be covered for one. Since I have pain in multiple places, and I can't have PT to my whole body, if it helps, it would be a nice thing to have.
Thanks,
Beverly
