10 year old foot spur?

Posted by Serina B on 12/09/00 at 22:44 (034572)

My daughter is 10 years old, she has 3 very painful spots on the heel of her right foot (not exactly sores, more like a splinter, hardened and tough). I have been reading about the heel spur and wonder if this could be what my daughter has. Although she is only 10, do children have this painful condition or only adults? She started with the first one during the summer, and has grown to 3 separate spots now. She lives with her father and I am very concerned, he doesn't seem to think it's a big deal. What else could this be if not a spur? Should this require immediate attention from a specialist? Also, she has had an ongoing bout with Athlete's Foot for about 2 years, her father also doesn't seem to pay much attention to either....

Thanks, I appreciate any information

She should be seen by a podiatrist. If the sore spots are in the skin tissue, they could be warts or blocked oil ducts. These can harden over and be very painful. If the pain is at the back side of her heel, she is at the age where her growth plates in her heel bone could be causing her pain. Dr. B.
