New Balance shoes

Posted by Lori B on 1/10/01 at 23:06 (036378)

Hi, it's Lori again. I went to the New Balance web site to look at a pair of 851's or 853's, but I could only find the 853, and it was not a women's shoe. Any of you gal's out there tried a New Balance shoe? What number did you try? Did it help?

Lori,

The new balance 851 was discontinued but, roadunnersports http://www.roadrunnersports.com still has New Balance make the shoe for them exclusively. It's under running shoes in the classic section. I can't wear it anymore, since I found out I supinate, and it was pushing me to the outside of my feet, and was partly the cause of my PF, but I thought it was the best in the series of the 850 shoes. It was very comfortable. It runs small. Size up a whole size in length. I have a medium foot, but used to wear the D width, because it runs narrow. It's much more comfortable and supportive then the 852, and a little more supportive than the 853, and nicer looking, and also a lower price.

Don't wear it unless you are at least a slight pronator, because the rollerbar, and the medial tpu piece is very strong, and it might cause you to supinate, even if you have normal biomechanics.

I noticed another Donna S on the board a couple of weeks ago I think from Denver, so I've added another initial.

Lori,
I just bought my 2nd pair of New Balance 851's last weekend. We have a New Balance store here in St. Louis & they carry this shoe. You might also try the internet site http://www.newbalance.com it may be http://www.anewbalance.com I can't remember. There is another NB that you might try, the 608. The 851's have a graphite roll bar to keep your foot from pronating. The 810's have a great heel support, but not much in the way of support in the front of the shoe. Good luck.

Hi Lori--I have been wearing NB since I started with this foot mess about 4 1/2 years ago. I like the 990's the best, but have worn other styles also. NB has widths, which is really nice if you don't have a normal foot. (who among us does???) I buy mine from newbalancewebexpress.com and watch for deals, closeouts, etc. Even with the shipping they are usually less expensive than the stores. Also, you can go to eastbay.com and they also carry lots of styles, including NB, Nike, Adidas, etc. My pod once told me that I should change my shoes every six months, so I have been doing that all along, and I just put the sale ones in the closet until that six months is up, then drag them out and start over!
Good luck!
Kay

Lori,
Just got off the web site for new balance shoes http://www.newbalance.com
The 851's have not been discontinued, they are still available. I looked for the 843's, but couldn't find them. You can order directly from their web site. Good luck.

Re: New Balance shoes 851 in crosstrainer only

The 851 Running shoe has been discontinued by New Balance. They still have a cross-training shoe called the 851. It is still a stable shoe, but heavier, and different than the the running shoe, and doesn't have any additional 'absorb' in the heal, only in the forefoot. I myself happen to like crosstrainers better than most running shoes, because I don't run.
