Physical Therapist "Stretching" the Heel (Ouch!)

Posted by Cynthia D on 1/22/01 at 18:32 (037101)

Has anyone ever had a doctor or physical therapist 'stretch' their heel? By this I mean grabbing it from both sides while the patient is lying on their stomach and pulling the heel away from the body? Both times she did this I couldn't walk for two days and my heels were very swollen, so last time she didn't try it. Any pt's or drs. comments are also welcome.

Cynthia,
Ouch!!! What is their reasoning to this torture??

I wrote somewhere in here about how I like to stretch the pf.

Sorry to here about your experience.

My Chiro does this type of technique to me as well as another foot manipulation. Afterwards I feel so much better. It feels like there is more spring in my feet. It usually lasts for about a day or two. It never made my feet feel bad at all.
