any success w/ orthotics?

Posted by Devon C on 2/08/01 at 17:44 (038463)

Hi,
I have had PF for a long time and just recently was diagnosed. My Dr. told me to buy the over the counter orthotics which made my feet worse. I recently went back to him and he fitted me for some custom fit orthotics (which were outragously expensive)...I was just wondering if anyone has had luck with these. My feet are extremely bad, and I just hope to get some relief with the orthotics but I have my doubts. At this point it seems like nothing will work.

If the cause of your heel pain if a malfunctioning or a biomechanical abnormality then yes they will help you. Richard our on- site board certified orthotic specialist could write a book on the subject. Take a look at his various postings thru the search engines and you will find a great amount of information on ths topic.

Hi Devon,
I think it will be possible the orthotics will give you relief. If you have read anything I have posted, it all comes down to who and how the inserts are made.

The doc may be casting you for hard plastic. I shiver when I type that. I am not a fan of hard plastic. I like EVA. Someone said that a doc told them that EVA is a pedorthic thing. Yeah, but it works great and has wonderful cushion.

Check your insurance to see if the cost is covered in any way.

Good luck.
Richard
