arthritis in the back, and PF

Posted by Nancy N on 2/16/01 at 09:00 (039131)

I got a call from my PCP earlier this week about some x-rays I had taken last week. She says I have arthritis in my lower back (this is depressing since I'm not even 30 yet). I have my follow-up appointment with her today, and I'm wondering if there's any chance my PF could be related to the arthritis at all, and if so, what should I ask her? I appreciate any input--it's gonna be a long visit, I already have about ten things to ask her about, but more are welcome!

Thanks very much.

Nancy ,

Ask if there is any disc problems. Do you have pain or numbness from your back to your legs or any weakness. Ask if a mri is warranted to rule out things that the xray cannot see. The pf is probalby not related. When are they sending you to a specialist for your back???

Dr. Kosova--

Thanks for your reply. I wish I'd seen it before my visit :) I do sometimes have some numbness in my right thigh, in the outer portion of the thigh, but I forgot to mention that yesterday. I've asked other doctors who tell me that it's the result of a nerve that's pinched when you sit in a certain position, so I don't know if it's relevant or not. I'll put it on my list of things to ask her the next time I see her.

So far, she hasn't said anything about sending me to a specialist, as she thinks it's a mild case and not altogether uncommon for my age.
