Planterfascia- Still the same pain before surgery

Posted by Tracey A on 2/21/01 at 23:24 (039613)

Dear Doctors, Well I still have the same pain prior to surgery, maybe it's alittle worse. I've had 2 surgeries on my right foot(7-8-00and 09-12-00). The pain is still there. I've been to P.T. many times and it did'nt work. My concern is my heel is numb and it still feels like there is a rock in my heel. Nothing has changed and I've got the same problems. It's going on 9 mos now and the surgery in my opinon has made my problem worse. I really believe that the doctor messed up. Let me say that the first doctor is called 'the guru of podiatrist' and is supposed to be the best. The second doctor was an orthopedist and now he refuses to see me. I've seen a 3rd doctor who tells me there is nothing he can do the damage has been done, and he was on the list of the best doctors who are certified on your website. I can't stand very long, can't walk long the things I did before I can't do anymore without pain. I can't wear a shoe even now and I use a cane. Do you have any input or advise? Would a cast be a good idea? Anything? Tracey

P.S. Sometimes there is no more to do............

I don't have an answer off the top of my head. I am sorry but you need to refresh my memory. Are you the poster that had the EPF surgery and then the open surgery. ? If the pain is at the insertion of your foot then ESWT could help you. If there is nerve damage that may be another story. It you have already posted about this please refer me to this post. If not please detail the types of foot surgery and what has been told to you is the problem. Is there nerve damage.? Is the pain at the insertion of the plantar fascia . If it is then ESWT could help to resolve this problem.

I have seen and treated some really bad post failure heel surgery with ESWT so long as the problem is in the plantar fascia at the insertion and all other causes such as lower back involvement and any systemic problems have been investigated and ruled out. I hope that this is in anyway helpful to you.

Dr. Zuckerman, I had 2 open heel surgeries. I posted a few times the last few months. I saw the third doctor on Jan.16th and he is the one who said I had permanent numbness on the heel due to nerve damage. I had a MRI in December with the 2nd doctor and he said it was normal so he drop me and refused to talk or see me again. I'm still in alot of pain and it isn't any better and the doctor told me to start pain management, what is pain management? It hurts even when I'm not on my feet. My heel is still swollen and purple color due to the doctor making the incision go from the left of the heel and under the arch,he cut some blood vessels and now the bllod has no place to go now.

You need to have a specialist in rehab or pain management evaluate your foot.

A pain management specialist is a doctor who treats chronic pain. You need to be evaluated for RSD.

It is important that you get help with a specialist now . So call your family medical doctor and have him recommend a pain management specialist in your area. You can also call the local hosptial and they can give you this information. You must take charge and make this appointment yourself.
