Broken Fifth Metatarsal

Posted by Kristi E. on 3/14/01 at 09:10 (041430)

Hi,

I rolled my ankle two days ago and fell and broke the fifth metatarsal bone
of my right foot. A P.A. X-rayed it and put me in a moon boot. My question is this: I have a genetic clotting disorder (Protein S deficiency) although have never suffered any DVTs. Do I need to be concerned about this possibility and is there anything I can do to prevent it?

Thank you,
Kristi

You should disscuss this with your doctor. Depending on the patient, a lot of doctors give subcutsanious shots of heparin to prevent cloting. This may or may not appy in your case. Dr. B.
