PF Surgery Question

Posted by Sheila W on 3/29/01 at 06:27 (042887)

I'm scheduled for pf surgery (open release, no spur removal) on 25 Apr. My doctor says I'll be in a cast and non weight bearing for 6 weeks. I've noticed on this board that most people seem to be at least partially weight bearing by 2 or 3 weeks. What is considered the 'normal' amount of time to be non weight bearing? Will it cause more scar tissue to form if I
can't move my foot or massage it for 6 weeks?

Hi,

With an open release non-weighing is very typical for six weeks. The purpose is to avoid any pulling at the surgery site and to avoid any tearing of the already cut surgical site. So rest and use the cast to help the healing process.
