new therapy fo PF

Posted by Dr. Marlene Reid on 4/23/01 at 23:01 (045527)

Has anyone heard about a treatment given by someone in Mexico called PROLOC therapy (I think that is what it is called, I can't find my note where I wrote it down). A patient today told me about some famous guy who treats PF with this therapy. She is trying to find the info for me. I may have the name wrong.

Re: new therapy fo PF was it Prolotherapy?

Dr Reid,

There's a therapy called Prolotherapy. Was that the name? There is tons and tons of info on the web if you do a search on Prolotherapy. It seems like it's mostly for ligament problems, and is some type of injection therapy.

Here's a couple of sites for it. I just picked these at random.

Hi Dr. Reid,

I had 4 Prolotherapy injections into my right (worst) heel. The doctor used mostly a sugar substance, and a little lidocaine. I had thre of the injections through the side, like a cortisone shot. The 4th one, he went in through the bottom on my heel pad, O U C H !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All four were the big hurt, especially the last one. My insurance would not pay for the shots, ($125 each), but did pay for the office visits ($100 each). They, like everything else, did not work for me. I've talked to others who had it for PF, they were not helped at all. I know of some folks that were helped, but they got the shots in areas like the shoulder.

It it supposed to work the same way ESWT will work. Irraitate the area, so that the body will heal it. If anyone is interested in the Prolo shots, make sure you ask the doc for some references of people he has helped. The method is approved for heel pain, but I've yet to hear of anyone it helped (heels). There are other substances besides sugar. Salt and pumice were also mentioned to me.
