need Help, getting desperate, Doctor please read

Posted by Bob_F on 6/05/01 at 20:50 (050027)

Hi:
I have had severe pain in the ball of the foot (left foot is 3 times as
bad as the right) for 5 1/2 years. This started out as PF but there is
not much heel pain now. The skin seems to be hypersensitive and there
is deep pain in metatarsal joints. I cannot stand on a hard surface barefoot more
than 30 seconds and do not walk more than 300 feet any day without braces.
I wear braces and sometimes use a wheelchair if the distance is more
than I can handle. The pain in the ball of the foot moves from one side
to the other. Probably not neuroma as it is not stationary.
I had originally treated this with ice baths (as recommended by a POD) but
discontinued this 6 months ago in favor of contrast baths (hot and cool).
It is getting worse. What should I do?? What type of specialist should I
see to get this problem corrected? It is getting so bad that I may not be
able to hold a job or earn a living if so something is not done.

I would appreciate it if one of the doctors would respond. Thanks!

You need a complete lower extremity evaluation. May need an EMG/NC testing to rule out any nerve entrapement.

You may need blood work-up to rule out any systemic arthritis. What evaluations have you had done.?

I have had an EMG (electromyogram) and it was ok. What is the NC?
I have also had a bloodflow test by a vascular surgeon which was ok.
I had the blood test for arthritis when this first happened 5 years ago.
Are their any other tests that I should have?

Thanks.
