Birkenstocks

Posted by Crystal M on 7/11/01 at hrmin (052809)

I have a question concerning birkenstocks. I had PF release back in February. And I am supposed to wear arch support like my orthodics. But I have always heard that the birkenstocks are good for people that have feet problems. But I didnt want to throw away 100 dollars if that isnt true. I guess my point is it is summer and tennis shoes everyday just isnt quite cutting it. But if anyone could let me know about this I would appreciate it a bunch.
Thanks

Chrystal, Birkenstocks have several good qualities. They are foot-shaped (wider at the toe than at the heel); they give good arch support; and they require you to grip with your toes, thus exercising your feet. They come in many different styles: many here including myself like the basic Arizona sandal. But it depends on the foot problem: for some people, the deep heel cup is not suitable.

They are certainly worth considering. Your best approach is to find a specialist shoe store that not only stocks them but has knowledgeable staff who can fit you properly. Don't buy them on line until you are sure that you like them and that they suit you. If you then do want to buy them on line, go to the German website which sells them at about half the retail price (12 weeks for delivery though, unless you pay a surcharge). http://www.birkenstock-cn.com .

Thanks for the info Julie. I am going to a store that specializes in that type of shoe this weekend and see what would be best but thanks again.
