Posted by Nancy f on 7/27/01 at 08:54 (054453)

Hi julie, U made me very cutious so i called 5 drug stores ans one was able to order me leuko tape. I had it in one day & it was 10.00. I live in Jersey. Anyway yesterday was my first day. Felt pretty good. Today I will wear the tape orthotics and my newbalance & attempt to take these 2 beautiful children to the park. which i dont do enough because of the feet and feel guilty about. I have it in both feet. weak flat feet and burning and pf. Do most have this in both feet? Also u once methioned a spray what would that b for? Do u take this tape off every night before bed? Can u leave it on a few days? why do u like this tape & how do u know about it? Thankyou Thankyou thankyou. I know these are alot of questions. I have more but I am going to do another post. nancyf.

Hi Nancy

Leuko tape was what my podiatrist taped my foot with when I first saw him, he thinks it is the best tape, and I've used it ever since. It's not particularly easy to find here either - it's stocked only in large specialist pharmacies. I like it because it's good quality, and holds its tension throughout a day's activities. I'm pleased you were able to find it. But I'm sure there are other good brands of tape.

It wasn't me who mentioned the spray. I don't use one. I think it is for helping the tape to stick better (but I've never had any trouble with that). There is also a spray to make it easier to remove the residue - I don't use that, either.

Yes, do remove the tape at night. Your skin needs time to recover. If the tape is kept on for a few days (a) it loses tension and becomes ineffective) and (b) your skin weakens and softens, particularly if the tape gets wet. Taping every day is no problem with the simple techniques.

Enjoy your walk!

i posted a url where you can order the leuko tape from as well as residue tape remover. the same company (orthopedic and physical thearpy supply company) carries a lot of interesting items including sprays for removing tape residue. removing the residue is important to keep from irritating your feet. they have an assortment of night splints, orthotics, ultrasound machines, etc. a very large company.

julie and judy i use finger nail polish to remove the residue. it smells better than lighter fluid but is probably flamable.

Little No Smoking signs, Judy? Of course!

No, seriously. I wash my foot to get rid of the petrol smell.

John, don't you mean nail polish REMOVER? You must. So I'll tell you what happened to me last April when I tried to get through the airport security check on my way to Crete with a tin of lighter fluid in my bag. Of course they found it (it is highly flammable) and confiscated it (politely apologizing to me for having to, which astonished me) and suggested that I get some nail polish (called nail varnish here) remover. Which I did - but it didn't work nearly as well. Didn't have the crucial ingredient, whatever it is.

Maybe try lighter fluid?

I'm not sure about alcohol - must try it, Nancy.
