As anything Medicare does in the health system will in the end effect everyone i have read this. Medicare will reduce cost for new high tech procedures drastically and the approval of many high tech procedures. This would surely include a very new high tech procedure such as ESWT. If Medicare never jumps in on ESWT i would suspect it will be a long time before Insurance Companies do. The Doctors who clearly know more about this than I please comment. I read that the typical placement of a Pacemaker has cost Medicare $4000. It was stated that now they will reimburse the Doctor $1000. It was noted that doctors will probably now counter by keeping the patient in the hospital overnight rather than make it an outpatient procedure and than in the end medicare may end up paying more than the original $4000.
