Ossotron at Duke University?

Posted by Dan L on 8/23/01 at 18:51 (057736)

Today I returned to Duke Med Center in Durham, NC for a scheduled appointment. The ortho surgeon just plainly said 'Go to Canada for Ossotron treatment. We may not be getting the Ossotron after all. It could be months before it's available at Duke.' I should note this was in sharp contrast to what he told me the first week in July...that he already had one on the way for Duke Med Ctr. FYI: I had not mentioned Canada at all!!! He just came into the room and said 'Go to Canada'....right out of the blue. At least he was straight forward. I post this info only because on an earlier posting I said the Ossotron would be available in Durham.

DanL,

I was told the same thing since I was investigating DUKE myself. After speaking with a few ortho surgeons, they said that they were having problems getting the ossatron and told me to go to Canada as well. I had posted the 'ESWT in Canada' question. I'm hoping to investigate that route.

Thanks

You may find them waiting for Dornier's machine. A lot of the major centers are waiting for this one.

They may be waiting for the soncur. I believe that the elbow trials were done somewhere in the South . Not sure North Carolina or South Carolina

The 'Go to Canada' advice seems strange to me. The Ossatron is available in many US locations.

But does it cost less there? I don't remember what the Ossatron costs up North, but if it's a significant difference, it might still be worth the trip.

canada because of the very low cost steve. also they do not put you in the hospital and under anathesia. another factor the exchange rate.

it is significant nancy. it was $1500 and with thecurrent exchange rate that might make it $1200.
