Broken Heels

Posted by HelenA on 8/27/01 at 05:05 (058074)

Dear Doctor
About 12 months ago my friend broke both his heels in a fall. He can now walk but is in constant pain. He currently takes high doses of pain killers each day and has been told by 3 consultants in England that his feet will not get any better. He is only 49 years old, a builder by trade and very active and is hoping to find an alternative frm of treatment other than pain killers. The pain is not only in his feet but also from the knee down to his heels.
Do you think ESWT would help.

Regards

Helen

One really needs to know the source of the pain. If the pain is derived from a fracture that affected the subtalar joint, ESWT may not help. If the fracture was at the contact point of the heels and scar tissue is the issue, then ESWT could help.
