Pain on the back of the heel after tennis

Posted by Jerry T. on 8/27/01 at 10:10 (058088)

Dear Doctor:

I play tennis a lot recently. And every time After I play, the back of my right heel (not the bottom of my heel) hurts a lot. Actually, It's ok if I don't touch it, but if I press the little area between my achillies tendon and the bottom of the heel, I want to sceam.

I don't feel pain in the morning and it's not the bottom, so I don't think it's plantar fasciitis after reading through your website. My foot feels better if I rest for a few days, but if I play tennnis, it comes back. I have already been using insols.

So what should I do with it? I don't want to quit tennis yet. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

How is your ankle range of motion. Are you stretching before and after your tennis game.

How old are your shoes. This could be either a achilles tendonitis or a haglunds deformity.

So check your shoes. Have this checked out before it starts to curtail your
tennis game

Thanks a lot, Dr.Zuckerman.

I didn't and it seems I definitly should stretch whenever I play again.

My shoes are 7 months old; I will get a new pair asap this week.

What else should I do? Should I take any medicines or go to see a doctor?

Thanks again.

Jerry

An evaluation by a doctor should be done for a hand on evaluation
