SPREAD THE WORD.. STOP HATE!!

Posted by Lisa C. on 9/16/01 at 00:49 (060535)

I would like to warn everyone not to jump on the hate wagon. I know that our intelligent group here already knows that but go one step further, if you hear someone spewing hatred aimed a wide group of people please say something, speak up and help stop it.
I have been married 27 years. My husband is from Iran. He graduated from high school here in California and is as American as you can get. When the hostages were taken in Iran at our American embassy the hatred was so bad that I legally changed my last name and that of our 2 sons. It has been refreshing to read the views and thoughts on this social board. John H, yours is always the voice of reason! Bravo to all who stood up to the ignorance of anon!

Hi Lisa C and all of you out there!
As you know I´m living in Sweden (that´s why my spelling is dreadful, but I hope you´ll understand me anyway, I know you do) - I was out shopping in our 'little' town yesterday. I saw 3 (ONLY!!) foreign people, and I spoke to a man who´s from Iran, and he said they are afraid.... we have lots of foreign people in Sweden, and right now they are hiding.

I think this is the most awful thing that has happened in human history. I think of this all the time, and pray for you all 'over there' and for us all

God bless America - and the World.
Take care

Clara

Lisa thank you for your kind words. At the end of the day reason will prevail. Our world leaders in Ameria,Canada,England,France,Germany,Italy, and in the Middle East will probably do the right thing. It will not please everyone but I will accept what ever the course of action because they represent the people and we chose them and in the final analyis we the people are making the decision.

Hi Clara,
Gee, maybe I have some relatives in Sweden. My Dad is swedish (Larson & Anderson just some of the family names) but I wouldn't know how to speak to them if I did because I am just American. It is rediculous to hold entire groups of people responsible for the horrific acts of individuals. I used to think that education was the key. That these blindly obediant followers needed only to be educated to realize how wrong they were. How can a person be intelligent enough to learn to fly a plane and not see how how terrorism is never okay under any circumstance? Nobody's God would ever approve. Now I know that 100% pure evil exists in the world.

In college Lisa three of my very good buddies were from Iran. We never talked about religion or politics. We talked about basketball and girls. My very good doctor and now a friend is Dr Reedy who arrived here from Pakistan some years ago. He is one of the most popular doctors (Pain specialist) in our city. It takes months to get an appointment with him. I hope life does not change for him.

I am afraid that today I read in our local paper that a man who moved from our area to Mesa Arizona was shot & killed at the gas station he owned. He was a sikh and wore a turban. Earlier another gas station worker was shot at he was from Lebanon and the home of a family from Afghanistan was shot at as well. The story had reports of children (with middle eastern looks)being harrassed at school... None of these people had anything to do with the lunatics and fanatics who are responsible for the WTT. I am not afraid for my husband or family. You would never guess our children are 1/2 Iranian and my husband is well loved in our community where we have had a business for over 25+ yrs. I could go on forever about my husbands great qualities. We call him the weakest link sometimes as we cannot let him answer the door or we will own another vaccuum, magazine subscription, half dozen boxes of cookies or candy... My brother got him a hat one year for x-mas that said 'No more Mr. Nice Guy'. He will give the shirt off his back to anyone. Most our employees have been with us for 10 to 15 years, as he treats them like family. One employee opened a his own restaurant and then had a stroke. My husband sent our cooks over to fill in until he was able to come back (quite a while). He has never been on any American 'dole' but has provided jobs for many people for many years. If I ask him why he is giving money to a homeless person who looks like they are going to buy drugs or alcohol with it, he tells me to read the bible, and that this person has to eat sometime. As long as I am preachy, I also feel that alot of the school shooting violence and tradgedies have roots in our homes. We need to teach our children not to make fun of others. Don't make a comment in front of your children about the overweight person crossing the street in front of your car. Set an example. If somebody says something wrong or offensive be the brave one and speak up and say 'thats not neccessary it offends me...' Its a start in the right direction. I don't even think we should stop hate completly. I just think it should be earned on an indivdual basis.
