Black cherry concentrate

Posted by JoAnn Fl on 10/01/01 at 19:20 (061996)

What is it good for and how do you use it? Did it help with PF?

JoAnn: University of Michigan studies show black cherry concentrate to have 10 times the power of aspirin as an antiinflamatory. You can buy it at health food stores like Beans and Grains or order it. Some people post they have success with it. I drink it and it taste good if nothing else. Some drink it out of the bottle. I mix mine with water. Nothing to lose here.

John,
How many people do you think are in the Black Cherry Juice trial that haven't posted their data? Only one person responded to my post asking about an update a while back and they saw no results. It's unfortunate
that we can't give a real test to this alternative treatment because its being used in conjunction with other treatments as well. Did you read the U.of M. study? Any idea about length of time before they saw results?
I haven't tried the juice yet.

Did I just read that you had another ESWT treatment with Dr. Z? Doesn't that make number (4)? I thought you were at a (1) in pain level. Did you have a flare up again? What's up with your pain?

pauline: i was at pain level 1 for over 2 months and sometimes no pain. i felt so good that i put on my regular street shoes with no inserts and after 2 days my pain level jumped backed to level 2. i am now back in my reeboks with semi-rigid orthotics and my pain level is back to level 1. during the time i dropped from a pain level of 2 or more to a 1 i was drinking black cherry concentrate and using jade and had my 3rd ESWT treatment on june 15th on both feet. my big improvement came 6 weeks after this ESWT treatment. there just is no scientific way to know precisely why my big improvement after 7 years. i have not drank cherry juice in about 2 weeks and my feet are at level 1 today. i continue to use jade each night. I had my 4th ESWT treatment last week on both feet. Dr Zuckerman is now using 1500 shocks after the 2nd or 3rd treatment rather than the 3000 he uses on the initial and/or 2nd treatment. my non medical instincts tell me that ESWT has been the driving force behind my improvement and as long as i get some improvement from a visit which last i will go back again until i reach a point where i see no improvement or the doctor and i come to the conclusion ESWT has taken me as far as it can. i strongly believe that anyone should try ESWT prior to surgery. my next big look see will to see how my feet react to my 4th ESWT treatment. it will probably be 6-12 weeks for me to decide just what the effect has been. i am just grateful that i can now do things i have not done in many years and hope some of you other people can see that a person who has had chronic pf for over 7 years can dramatically improve. i would also like to add this pauline. i developed some interest beyond my feet which helped me switch my focus from my feet every minute of the day to something else. this, i think, has also been a mover in my improvement. when i say an outside interest it will be different for different people and you may just discover it by accident. this may sound like hocus pocus to you pauline because i know you are very precise and demanding in your search for improvement or a cure. most of my life i have been very much one who looks for precise and medically proven scientific answers. my world as a pilot and electronics was precise and clear. with pf i think their are answers that go beyond the 'scientific method'>

pauline: i got carried away and forgot to answer your original question about cherry juice. i do not know how many have not updated. i need to update myself. since i like anyway i will probably buy a bottle today. sort of replaces my orange juice. my flight back from dr z and all the walking in the airport was no problem. i would describe my feet as mildly sore the day after treatment. not a pf type sore. today i will be walking a lot in my job as i did yesterday. my hope is to one day run again but i can live with what i have and not be thinking about my feet all day. i continue to look at Yoko who now runs 15 miles at a time when a few years ago she was just like the rest of us. there is hope out there people. this is not forever although maybe somewhere there is some stray person that has footproblems forever for a variety of reasons.

John,
Doesn't sound like hocus pocus to me at all. As you know Charities are a big focus in my life and I certainly think if I hadn't been concentrating in these areas I would have spent way too much time focusing on my own troubles and pain.

AS hard as it is sometimes for us to get outside of ourselves, it think it's a valuable tool for healing. I certainly hope your pain continues to improve. Dang those street shoes. The posting today from one of the original Ossatron gang was certainly uplifting. She's cured. I love that word ' cured'.

Have you ever figured up how much you spent just trying to treat P.F.? I've got a whole bag of STUFF I don't know what else you'd call it. I'm sure you have your STUFF too. I think we kept tract of all the money we
spent it would be staggering.

I don't go back and visit the STUFF anymore, maybe one of these day's I have the courage to throw it all away. How about you, do you visit your STUFF or have you thrown it away already?

pauline: probably 90% of everything ever mentioned here i have tried some of which include accupuncture, tts surgery, pf surgery, 3 sets of custom orthotics, 4 ESWT treatments including trips to new jersey, cortisone shots, various shoes, all sorts of herbs, vitimins, lotions, and salves, magnets, massage, 3 different night splints, various diets, stretching, stretching devices, birks, foot vibrators and on and on. I have seen 4 different orthopedic surgeons, 4 different podiatrist, a pain specialist and even considered hypnosis but discarded that because i cannot be hypnotized. Counting the cost of surgery i would suspect i have spent on the order of $15,000 to $20,000. I have sent many of the products that did not work for me to others on the board. This has been one long and winding road with supprises around each and every corner. There have been many ups and downs both physically and emotionally. I have made progress and will push on. I am not one to keep stuff around. I either give it to someone who wants to try it or trash it. That comes from my military experience. My wife save everything and I save nothing unless it has utility or gives me some pleasure. If all of piled in one big heap all of our PF 'stuff' can you imagine what it would look like. The outside world would think we were all crazy.

pauline: i did not read the complete study from the U. of Michigan but only portions of it. the only thing i remember was that the cherry concentrate was 10 times more powerful than aspirin as an anti-inlamatory. i shoul have paid attention to the dosage (duh!). Seems to me i remember something like three tablespoons a day. that is just a guess from my memory.

John,I can relate to all the PF STUFF. I have had two surgeries, visted 5 orthopedics surgeons, 2 podiatrist and can hardly walk. I have gained weight since all this started 5 years ago and feel as if I am a disabled senior citizen and I am only 37 and have four teenagers and a husband who need their wife and mom back. I am excited about having ESWT soon, and am going to get some black cherry concentrate and try it. I am open to anything! I am glad to hear success stories. I don't even want to think about how much money I have spent over the years trying to find help. I have more money invested in expensive shoes than anyone can imagine...and custom orthotics...it never seems to end.
