Surgery 4/11/01

Posted by Susan U on 10/08/01 at 11:34 (062467)

I just thought I'd drop a note on my progress. I had plantar facia release surgery on 4/11 after suffering for about 5 years. I used a walker for about a week then went to a quadcane for about 3 weeks. The healing and pain relief took longer than I expected, but not longer than my Dr. said it would HA HA. I went to Disney World for 10 days at the end of August and I managed very well. Now I am completely pain free. All I can say is hang in there! I pray you all have as good a surgeon as I did and get the same amount of relief that I have.

I remember you well. Great to here that you have relief. I believe that your doctor was one the residents ( Dawn) that I worked with . I bet it is
such a great feeling to walk without pain.

Oh dr. z you may have an idea. IT'S BLEEPING WONDERFUL. hehe. I know I take flack for saying this if you have an identifiable structual problem get surgery to get well. Why set around on a bunch of pills forever. GET WELL and take care of yourself. You will be amazed how much better you feel. I FEEL WONDERFUL HAHAHAH . I WOULD JUMP up and down but am not supposed to. heheheheh i feel so good.

Did surgery help your foot. ? I hope so . I always though that it would.
Just want to know if it did. Didn't you have the tumor on your lateral plantar nerve that was removed.

Cindy - I don't think anyone should give you flack for what you're saying. Surgery in your case was obviously a good idea. And often it is...when...as you say - there is an identifiable problem. Unfortunately the results do not seem nearly as good if there ISN'T an identifiable problem - and those people may do better pursuing all conservative options first.

You have me confused w/someone else. My Dr. is Dr. Brian Van Grouw of Midland Park, New Jersey. His feeling was to walk as soon as I wanted to, weight bear immediately if I wanted to--it was up to me and my pain. He gave me all the pain meds. I needed which were every 4 hours for about the first 3 days then tapered off dramatically to 1 or 2 a day for a week or so then 1 every so often. Actually, me foot was not the main pain problem after it healed from the surgery--I have a very bad knee which needs partial knee replacement surgery probably in a year or two. Again I say I am SO glad I went ahead with the surgery.
