reinjury of PF?

Posted by Barb B on 10/17/01 at 20:10 (063194)

I was diagnosed with PF about 8 months ago. About 2 months ago I finally had a shot of cortisone in my heel. Was that painful! After about four days I was completely pain free. It was wonderful. On Monday this week I was walking home from taking my daughter to the bus and when I came down on the ball of my foot I felt something tear in my heel. Any recommendations for some things I can do for this. I am assuming that I have reinjured the PF but I am waiting for a specialist appointment which could take up to six weeks. I am using ice and ibuprophen but nothing seems to help. My foot is swollen now and I am worried about what the tearing could have been. Thanks for the help

Hi,

It is very well possible that some of he fibers of the plantar fascia had been torn. Sometimes local steriod injections can weaken the fibers of the plantar fascia where they are attached . So what to do

1. Wow six weeks anyway you can move the appointment closer.
A boot cast could really take the weight off the foot. Take a look at the products that on this board to get the weight off the foot. Let me take a look myself so that I can point out the correct one

2. Heat at this point and time . Gentle non-weight bearing stretching. IF painful move the ankle up and down very slowly

3..Stay off the foot if you can't get a hold of a boot cast

4. Nite Splints at bedtime is very helpful.

5.you need medical attention now not the six weeks.
