Posted by P, Smith on 11/26/01 at 23:45 (065368)

Greetings(s):

I am ayoung male, and work in an attorney like environment. It very professional and I am required to wear dress shoes most every day. I have frequent heep lain, and after flying around in dress hoes, my heels really hurt each day as well my arch. I have had some pairs of orthotics by local podiatrists. There are okay, but seem to fail, after long periods of walking and Standing. So far no-podiatrist has seemed to help me, can someone provide my with name and phone number of 'good, quality and respectable podiatrist in the area, who can help with the orthotics, and not just out to make a quick buck?

Thanks...Smith

Hi,

I know of a very good podiatrist in Englewood, New Jersey . His name is Richard Braver. He is a Sports Medicine Podiatrist. E-mail me at (email removed) and I will get you his telephone number.

Braver seems to be a high-profile kind of guy, at the least by virtue of his frequent appearances in Runner's World magazine (with an alleged readership of around 2 million). He answers a question on black toenails in the latest (December) issue, pg. 26. His byline there says

Richard Braver, D.P.M., runner and sports podiatrist in Englewood, Fair Lawn, and Wayne, N.J., and RW Science Advisory Board member

Guess he has numerous offices. I have an appt coming up soon to see some podiatrist guy in Woodbury, NJ; it's going to be a long drive from out of state, but he comes highly recommended. Hope this Braver fellow doesn't have anything over him. :-)

Some podiatrist guy in Woodbury. Hey Now I am going to make you wait. Just joking. IF I can't help you I will find someone who can. I have a very large contact of specialists in my palm address . My gut feeling is the posterior tibial tendon is damage in your case. We will check you out from head to toe.

I am presently running in orthodics made by Dr. Braver. I have been an orthodics wearer for many years. His are slightly different than others that I have worn and I must say these are the best yet. I would highly recommend his orthodics.

Can you elaborate? Is there a name associated with the orthotics? I mean, they're not handmade, are they? What makes them special? Thanks.

As a sufferer of Insertional Achilles Tendonitis I went to Dr. Braver for a second opinion before submitting to surgey. I am now under the expert care of some DPM in Woodbury, NJ whose name momentarily escapes me, where my condition is being treated with ESWT. Dr. Braver felt that I needed a slightly more rigid orthotic than I was wearing and that it also have a heel lift and some cupping of the heel. So he made me a pair of orthotics with all of these features. They are very comfortable. Are they helping my condition? Probably not. Are they making it worse? Probably not. Would I recommend them? Yes. Why not have some comfort. The orthotics are not hand made, but the technician in the office makes a mold of your feet with a plaster of paris type of material (very messy but no big deal) and from that impression they make the orthotic. It takes three weeks from casting to receive the orthotics.

And I was starting to wonder if Woodbury is some small dinky town in the middle of nowhere. Seems like it's the DPM capital of the Universe! :-)
