To Dr. Zuckerman

Posted by Bill D. on 11/30/01 at 15:44 (065760)

Hi Dr. Zuckerman,
I have been suffering foot pain from post tib tendonitis/tts for over 7 years.
I have had several MRI's, EMG's and X-Rays. Nothing shows up as a clear cut diagnosis, yet, my inner ankle is swollen and tender. I do have the Tinnel's Sign response if my ankle is tapped.

I have seen a lot of doctors here in Los Angeles. Some suggest surgery, some think that surgery can make matters worse.

I've tried many different types of orthotics, shoes, PT and injections.
Nothing relieves the pain.

I have not been able to do any weight bearing activitys such as running, biking or sports without aggravating my foot.

I would consider surgery, but I'm so affraid that it might result to more pain. Also, surgery at this point would be explorative.

Can you refer someone in LA that is familar with my type of problem?

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you so much for your time.

Bill D.

Nicole,
I bet we have seen some of the same doctors here in LA.

I have not had surgery since there is no clear evidence on of a problem in my ankle. ALL tests, MRI's and X-Rays show nothing wrong. Surgery at this time would be exploratory. It might also create scar tissue which can create more pain.

Your X-Ray shows that there is someting causing your pain. The big question is why didn't the other surgerys work? The other big question is which doctor do you put your faith and trust with?

If I were to have surgery in LA, the best surgeons I have found are:(although they were not able to help me)
1)Carol Frey (Manhattan Beach) and 2)Andrea Crackliola(UCLA-Westwood)spelling?
I've asked around and they both have great track records. Have you seen either of them?

Well, the doctor who I had put me faith in and trusted obviously has let me down (see 'I don't think my doctor is looking out for my best interests' thread). This is the person I have been going to consisitently for 5 yrs. for this, more or less.... His name is Dr. Dennis Gumm of Horizon Podiatry in Torrance. If you go see him, please do NOT tell him about me posting here as I would not like to have him read all of my messages. :) He is a caring person and has become like a friend to me. He, however, will not even consider ESWT so I am not thrilled about this. He is the one who do my EPF (though it did not work). He is heavily involved with the podiatry community (if there's such a thing).

I have also seen Dr. Kwong at Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic. Dr. K is the one who did the second surgery on me, also unsuccessfully.

I am currently having my orthotics remade by Dr. Ross who seems to pretty good. He specializes in just orthotics. He's on Westwood Blvd.

I have had PT at the place at the Manhattan Country Club which was pretty good, and also at another place in Torrance, but I can't remember the name of it right now. I had a chiropractor work on me who was supposedly a soft tissue specialist; Dr. Semel in Redondo Beach (he is above Whole Foods). I liked him, and think he did a good job, but PT just doesn't work on me.

Hi,

Off the top of my head I know a podiatrist who is very smart and specializes in miminial incision foot surgery / His name is Dr.Greg Teles.
HE practices in Torrence . This is what made me think about him. Not sure if this is the area you need to see but worth an examination. I believe he offers a complimentary initial examination.

Thanks Dr. Z.
I appreciate your referral.
I will make appt. soon to see Dr. Teles and keep you posted.

Yeah, he always sends out coupons in the mail. Let me know if you need any, and I could mail them to you or whatever, the next time I get them. The thought of going to him never occured to me as I have to wonder why he's always advertising. :( I've never seen any other pods advertise.

Nicole,
I also wonder about Dr's who advertise. It might be worth a try if it's a free exam. I'm gonna think about it.
I've seen only one of the people you've seen and that is Dr. Kwon. He was very nice. He didn't feel I needed surgery and sent me to accupunture. It didn't help at all. That was a couple of years ago.
I'm not sure who I'll see next. The funny thing is that you can keep going to doctor after doctor here in LA and never run out. There are so many. I'm not sure I believe they can help me anymore(as far as my foot problem). I do have a great Internal Med and dentist I've been going to for years, so, it's not like I don't believe in doctors.
I'm just not sure if there is anybody out there then can figure out my problem.
I can recommend a great pod in Santa Monica. Even though he hasn't help me, he is a great doctor and extremely nice. He is also very smart. I've seen him the most over the years, and he has tried the hardest to help me. He never gives up. His name is Dan Altchuler 310-451-8045.
Also, there is Carol Frey, an Ortho Foot Surgeon in Manhattan Beach. If I were to ever have surgery, she would be the one.

Hey, thanks a lot for the recommendations. I will check them out soon probably.

I got a coupon for Dr. Teles in the mail the other day! If you want it, e-mail me with your address and I'll mail it to you. The coupon is for either a 'free initial exam and consultation', or, 'a free gait analysis'.
