2nd toe joint pain

Posted by Freddie V. Smith on 1/31/02 at 15:02 (072100)

I have excrusiating pain under and around my second toe joint. It is awful when I walk and it is worse in the morning. I have tried Ice, cortisone shots, orthotics and nothing seems to help. I have been diagnosed with metatrsalgia but man does this hurt. This thing hurts worse than anything I have ever had. Please help me.

I am not a doc but see your post has been here a few days so thought I would offer input.
If you have been diagnosed with Met. by your POD or foot and ankle Specialist you should have been set up with a plan for treatment or at least steps to relieve your pain. Do you have a reputable doc you trust??
Maybe another oinion is what you seek?

I'm not a medical person either, but Carmen, those are good suggestions.

I think your doctor shouldn't be leaving you in such pain. He ought to at least have prescribed medication and future appointments. I wonder if there is something else causing the pain like a broken bone or arthritis. If it was my second toe that hurt this much, I'd make appointments with another doctor and in the meantime I'd go back and see this one again.

No reputable doctor will object to a consulting opinion, so you might as well be open about it. Also, the fact that you are seeking a consulting opinion might inspire your present doctor to make sure he is doing his best. Take your MRI's, X-Rays, and any other test results with you when you get a consulting opinion, or if you don't have any then get some done by the consulting doctor.

Good luck to you and I hope that something is done for your pain soon.
