Minimal PF Release

Posted by Mike S. on 2/08/02 at 07:12 (073005)

Hi,

I went to go get a 2nd opion from another Foot Specialist regarding surgury, and he confirmed that I do not have any spurs, but just the typical PF problem. He had mentioned that he would perform a procedure to release 'parcial' of the PF by going through the inside of the heel (fatty protion of the foot. This is the second DR. to tell me about going through the side of the foot. I watched the video on Minimal PF release on this web page, and it looks like it is performed from the bottom of the foot. Is one of these procedures better than the other, or is it only because the pacient had spurs?

Thanks.

In my opinion and experience the bottom is the best way to do either a pf release and or spur removal if you are going to have this procedure done

Why :

1. No nerves in that area
2. You are right on the level of the heel where the fascia inserts
3. Greatly reduced chance for lateral nerve damage and cutting lateral portion of the pf.

This is the approach I have been using for twenty two years.

Hi Mike-
I haven't visited the message boards in awhile but the procedure that you talking about I had that done last February and I am doing great. My doctor went in the bottom of my foot he told me about both ways either on the side or the bottom of the foot and also said that he didn't recommend going in the side. Just thought I would tell you that I went through that surgery and it went wonderful.
