Re: Bi-lateral TTS Release Surgery Possibly Being Repeated After 12 Yearspeated

Posted by Julia S. on 2/10/02 at 22:58 (073322)

Dear Dr.:
I had TTS release surgery done on both feet 12 yrs ago. Good results for 4-5 years with progressive deterioration during past 5 years especially. I feel that my condition is severe as the pain is chronic and I must rely on crutches or a cane often, although I try to avoid same unless absolutely necessary to walk. I have a high pain threshhold so I have been able to deal with the TTS but my symptoms have become quite disruptive to my daily life. I am a psychotherapist and so not only am I able to sit much of my work day, but I am also able to utilize pain mgmt techniques, positive attitude, etc. I am asking for help at this time because I can feel that I am losing the battle slowly and am determined to find out what surgical techniques might be available/relevant to my case. Can you make any suggestions re: surgical advances in recent years, highly qualifed/reputable doctors (esp. in Milwaukee/Madison/Chicago area) and if it is even viable to pursue a repeat of the TTS release surgery or, anything similar? Is scar tissue possibly part of the problem? Any information re: success (i.e. reasonable improvement) of repeat surgeries re: TTS? I have had recent MRI, x-rays, etc. Saw MD (heel surgeon specialist) 6 mo. ago and he said he could only be sure of 'bi-lateral heel pain' even with the lab results, hx, etc. He raised the possibility of 'claw toe' and 'flat feet' but was unwilling to commit to recurrent TTS or anything other than bi-lat. heel pain. I do not have time, money or energy to waste. I am too young to feel and function like I am. People in my family depend on me. I truly need help and direction. I appreciate any assistance you can give me. Sincerely, Julia
